Mascara Tips

Ok, so no makeup regimen is complete without that magic finishing touch; the mascara! The rest of your eye makeup can be rocking the house, but if you are missing that final step of  applying mascara, you are making a big mistake! It is the perfect "must have" tool for drawing attention to those gorgeous eyes!  Mascara completes the entire look for your eyes, and opens your eyes like nothing else!  Mascara is our best friend, because it is a huge necessity in our makeup routine.   But at the same time it can also be your worst enemy. Here are the most common problems we run into with mascara: 1).It can go on too thick, or clumpy 2).-it makes a mess and sometimes transfers on our face when we apply it. 3). Doesn't give enough volume/length to our lashes, Well I am going to give you a few tricks and tips that hopefully will make your every day mascara routine a little easier, as well as recommend some great mascaras that will give you those long gorgeous voluminous lashes we all desire.

  •  The most important mascara rule that most people don't follow, is to make sure you are changing your mascara at least every 3-4 months.  The reason for this is to avoid problems of your mascara drying out, and becoming chunky.  It will also lessen your chance of developing bacteria in your eye that can lead to irritation, and possible infection.
  • Here's another way to prevent clumpiness: Many of us, including myself when opening our mascara, we just pull it right out in one quick motion. Well watching a recent video from a celebrity makeup artist, I learned that is exactly what we should NOT be doing. By doing that you are actually pumping the air into the mascara, which is what causes it to become dry, and clumpy. So what you're going to do is twist the wand to get the mascara perfectly on the brush, then slowly pull it up.  I guarantee you will see a huge difference on how your mascara goes on. I certainly did when I changed my method.
  • To prevent a big mess of mascara transferring all over your eye, take a playing card, or index card, cut a small u-shape on one of the edges of the card, and place on your lid, as well as under your lower lash line.  That way your mascara will get on the card, and not your gorgeous face:)
  • The trick for achieving the look of beautiful long, thick lashes, is to start at the base, and wiggle your brush from side to side, all  the way up to the tips of your lashes.
Here are some great volumizing and lengthening mascaras I definitely recommend, as well as a video demonstration of applying these tips:
